The Broomfield Park Habitats Group had another very successful year in 2024 ensuring the abundant flora, fauna and wildlife habitats in Broomfield Park are preserved and improved.
Matthew Pierce has produced a comprehensive report on the impressive work of the regular volunteers who support the Broomfield Park Habitats group. The document is a review of the activities and projects undertaken by the Habitats Group in Broomfield Park in 2024.The Volunteers manage wildlife habitats in the park, their work includes a seasonal cycle of mowing, raking, and reed cutting to maintain the wildflower meadow and wetlands. in addition the group record wildflower, butterfly and bird species in the park to demonstrate the impact of their ongoing work and new projects..
The team includes six regular volunteers and additional support from groups and individuals throughout the year.
Highlights of 2024 include successful early-season mowing of the meadow, aiding wildflower restoration, and new wildflower species and new planting helped establish butterfly habitats around the wetlands. A new compost system was also set up.
