Broomfield Park Tree Project

PHASE 1: COMPLETED

As we come to the end of the challenging year of 2021, we can look back on some achievements that can give us optimism for the future.

Phase 1 focussed on replacing fallen and dead trees and some new planting in areas such as around the children’s playground.

After a successful fund-raising campaign with extraordinary generosity from many local donors (see list below) and support from Enfield's Arboricultural Officer and our many volunteers, we have planted over 100 trees this year and more than 1,000 native hedgerow whips in the continuation of the perimeter hedgerow project.

Aftercare and maintenance, in particular watering,  are a long-term commitment. We have already been supported in this by individual volunteers and some local families but will need to call out for more support this year.

PHASE 2 - STARTING

The second phase focuses on new planting to support the veteran trees in open parkland at the west end of the park. This includes planting common and pin oaks in gaps in the inner perimeter and around the ponds and developing new planting in the area in front of the sports courts. 

We have been given a generous donation by the North London Netball League to support this along with individual donors. A plaque will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the league in Broomfield Park.
